A People Fully Alive

Restored, Resourced, Released  Isaiah 61:1-3; John 10:10

Today is  15 August  Sunday 2021

We welcome you to our Service where we gather together not as those who have our lives perfectly sussed out, but as fellow pilgrims on a journey. We meet to acknowledge God’s power through the Holy Spirit in our lives, to celebrate and to affirm that we are not our own  – we belong to God and belong to one another because of the redeeming work of Jesus Christ.

Reflection

1 John 4:16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.

We know as Christians that we have a heavenly father who loves us beyond all measure no matter who we are. And we know that if we Love God and want to live in him that we too must Love! not just say we love but live in Love! And as we do that God will live in us and shine through us. Sounds simple, doesn’t it?! However, to Love fully and to show love to others can be hard, it can lead to hurt, but we should not avoid love because of that. Jesus Hurt because he loved. We see that in his weeping for his friend Lazarus, in his weeping over the city of Jerusalem, but he did not stop loving, he gave his life because he loved. To love is hard, raw, emotional and draining but we must Love because God calls us to live in him and he is Love.

I have witnessed that LOVE being lived out fully over the past few months despite the pain that has caused the givers of that love sometimes. I have seen the kind of love that only God can give because it hurts so much. I have questioned myself do I love like this? It has been a real challenge to me, to not just say this is what we are called to but to live it out. To believe that the Love God has given me is love that is more than enough to give out to others. And I have also been encouraged that despite the heavy weight that call of God is on our lives, we are not in it alone. This church is a family and shows itself to be such, as we support and look out for others in their struggles and in their efforts to love one another and to love the unlovable. With this behind us and the knowledge we can rely on the love that God has for us, let us continue to LOVE.       Jo Knowles
