What we believe

We, who were once lost, are not only saved, but called to live life in all its fullness. A life which we are also called to share with others. We believe that God has called and equipped us to be part of Jesus’ mission on earth and so the verses that formed his call form ours also.

Isaiah 61: 1-4

1The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me; he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners;

2to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn;

3to provide for those who mourn in Zion— to give them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display his glory.

4They shall build up the ancient ruins, they shall raise up the former devastations; they shall repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations.

We believe this passage summarises Jesus’ mission to restore, resource and release people. In this way the Kingdom of God spreads like the mighty oak that grows from the humble acorn.

We seek to be gracious and generous, supporting one another and reaching out to those who do not know the love of God. We desire to see all those among us radically transformed by an ongoing encounter with Jesus through lifelong discipleship. The teaching of the word, walking alongside each other in community and serving together are vital to this. We seek to include people of all ages in all aspects of worship and encourage their participation in the whole life of the church body. We believe that all Christians are important members of the church body. We seek to develop peoples’ gifts and provide opportunities to use them. Every voice matters as we seek the mind of Christ together. We believe that we have a God given mission to make disciples. So we encourage one another in sharing our faith and compassionately serving the needs of our community and all peoples.

Who we are

We are a group of people from many different backgrounds brought together by our love for Christ, a desire to know him more and share him with those around us.

We believe that following Jesus is a journey of change over time and so we seek to support each other with grace and generosity - not taking ourselves too seriously.

Our Team

Our Elders

As a Baptist church we put our emphasis on the leadership of Jesus, and his word to us which we discern together as a community. A central part of this is our team of Elders, elected from among our members to lead and guide the church alongside our staff.

Our Community

Church is not just for Sundays! Instead as people who follow Jesus we know that we must gather together, encourage one another, pray for and with one another throughout our weeks. To that end we set aside times to eat together as a whole community and in each other’s homes, we gather to pray weekly and monthly and we meet together throughout the week in small groups to go deeper in discipleship and our relationships with one another.

We have a group of enthusiastic and dedicated kids leaders who organise a weekly program for our school and pre-school aged children during the message on Sunday mornings. We also have wonderful youth leaders who run a weekly meeting on Wednesday evenings for our high school aged youth, a fortnightly social gathering and a weekly program for our younger youth during the message on Sunday mornings.

How to find us

We are in the sunny suburb of Musselburgh, close to the sea. Find us at 131 Musselburgh Rise, Dunedin.
